DESCRIPTION

Sikaflex® -512 Caravan is a one-component assembly hybrid that cures under the influence of ambient humidity to form a durable elastomer. The Sikaflex® -512 Caravan is manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001 and 14001 quality assurance rules and the "Responsible Care" program.

Method of polymerization Sikaflex® -512 Caravan polymerizes under the action of air humidity. When the temperature drops, the amount of water in the air decreases, which slows down the curing reaction. If Sikaflex® -512 Caravan is used in combination with a traditional polyurethane adhesive, this must be fully polymerized before the sealing of the Sikaflex® -512 Caravan is carried out.

Application areas

Sikaflex® -512 Caravan adheres well to most substrates and is suitable for producing permanent flexible joints. Suitable substrates are wood, metals, two-component primers and paints, ceramics, as well as plastics. Consult the manufacturer's manual before use on transparent material subject to crazing.

Chemical resistance

Sikaflex® -512 Caravan is resistant to UV radiation, the action of fresh water, sea water and detergents in an aqueous medium; It resists the temporary action of fuels, mineral oils, vegetable and animal fats; It does not resist the action of organic and mineral acids and basic solutions as well as solvents. Method of application

Surface preparation Surfaces must be clean, dry, free of grease and free of dust. Adhesion can be improved by degreasing the substrates using Sika® Aktivator-205 or by applying the appropriate Sika® primer. See the guide to Sika surface preparations. Smoothing and finishing

The smoothing of the joints must be carried out before the product has formed its skin. We recommend using Sika® Tooling Agent N. All other smoothing agents must be tested beforehand to assess their compatibility.

Cleaning

Uncured Sikaflex® -512 Caravan residues can be cleaned with Sika® Remover-208 or any other suitable solvent. Once cured, the product can only be removed mechanically. Hand and skin cleaning should be done immediately using Sika® Clean wipes or suitable soap. Do not use solvents!

Painting

Sikaflex® -512 Caravan can be painted over with most paints. The paint must be validated by tests, the best results are obtained if the adhesive polymerizes first, especially in the case of lacquered paints. The hardness and thickness of the paint film can affect the elasticity of the adhesive, the movement of the joint and cause cracking of the paint. PVC paints, and paints drying by oxidation (oil, or alkyd) are generally not compatible with Sikaflex® -512 Caravan. Two component paints are preferred
